Rainbow Middle School Director of Bands, Mrs. Alicia Probst
Mrs. Alicia Probst is the Director of Bands at Rainbow Middle School, where just this past year, she was named Teacher of the Year. Entering her tenth year as a band director, she is more excited than ever about loving kids and their families through music and helping to shape not only great musicians...but great people too!
Mrs. Probst has been sharing the joy of music-making all over the world, with kids aged 2 – 82 since she was 18 years old. A native of Alamo, Georgia, she earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Berry College in 1999. After college, she served for two years with the International Mission Board, working with teens in South Africa. Thinking a career in missionary work was in her future, she went on to earn a Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2007…only to discover that loving kids through music was her true calling! She has worked in multiple churches with both youth and adult choirs. She has taught music in elementary, middle, high schools and on the college level in the USA, Mexico, Canada, Romania, New Zealand, and South Africa.
She is married to Dr. Chris Probst, trumpet professor at Jacksonville State University. They they live in Jacksonville and are members of Faith Presbyterian Church in Anniston. She is an avid fan of coffee, travel, photography and songwriting.
Southside High School Director of Bands, Mr. Matt Weaver
Mr. Weaver is currently in his fourth year as Director of Bands at Southside High School. Mr. Weaver is a 2012 graduate of Jacksonville State University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. He performed with a number of ensembles while at JSU including the Marching Southerners, Chamber Winds, the competitive Tuba Quartet, Brass Chior, and the JSU Pep Band Hardcorps. Mr. Weaver also served as a section leader for the Marching Southerners for three years.
Mr. Weaver is an active musician and arranger. In 2008, he was a scholarship member of the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute in Denver, Colorado and was a founding member of the Pelham Street Brass Quintet. He currently serves as Principal Tubist for the Alabama Winds under the direction of Randall Coleman. Mr. Weaver is a member of the International Tuba Euphonium Association, the National Association for Music Education, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the Alabama Bandmasters Association.
He is happily married to Mrs. Haley Weaver who serves as The PRIDE's Colorguard Instructor. They met while in college at JSU during Southerners rehearsal. They have a yorkie named Maggie and attend the Rainbow Presbyterian Church of Rainbow City, AL.
Mr. Weaver conducts the Jazz Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. He also directs "The PRIDE" of Southside Marching Band.
Southside High School Assistant Director of Bands, Ms. Rebekah Holm
Ms. Rebekah Holm is the Assistant Director of Bands. She has previously taught for three years at Wheeler County High School in Alamo, Georgia. As a native of Muscle Shoals, she is very excited to be back in Alabama.
Ms. Holm attended the University of North Alabama and graduated with a Bachelors of Education in 2013. While at UNA, she was a member of “The Pride of Dixie” Marching Band, the Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Band, and the Shoals Symphony Orchestra. She was also a member of the front ensemble for three years with the Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps from 2008 to 2010. She was also a member of Gateway Indoor Percussion. Over the years, she has taught high school WGI percussion ensembles such has Muscle Shoals High School Concert Percussion & the Cullman High School Marching Percussion. She also taught the Muscle Shoals Front Ensemble.
Ms. Holm’s professional affiliations include Tau Beta Sigma, the Percussive Arts Society and the Alabama Bandmasters Association. Her hobbies include camping, hiking, playing X-Box, and caring for her kittens. She is engaged to her fiancé, Todd Hammock and will be getting married this summer. They are looking forward to the journey ahead as they make Southside their new home.
